An arithmetic progression (A.P.) has first term p and common difference d. The 5th term of the A.P. is 21 and the sum of the first 8 terms is 120. (a) Find the values of p and d. (b) Find the 20th term of the A.P. (c) The terms of the A.P. are used to form a new series by taking every other term starting from the first term (i.e. the 1st, 3rd, 5th, ... terms of the original A.P.). Show that this new series is also an arithmetic progression and find: (i) its first term and common difference; (ii) the sum of the first 12 terms of the new series.
