Why the answer is C, and why the others tempt you.
A Hadith Mursal is one in which a Successor (Tabi'i) narrates directly from the Prophet (SAW) without mentioning the Companion (Sahabi) who would have been the link between them. This makes it a type of broken-chain (munqati') Hadith. When two consecutive narrators are missing, it is called Mu'dal, and a Hadith with a known liar in the chain is classified as Mawdu' (fabricated).
