Why the answer is B, and why the others tempt you.
All four Gospels record that the inscription on the cross read 'Jesus of Nazareth, the King of the Jews' (John 19:19), written in Hebrew, Latin, and Greek. Pilate wrote this title and refused to change it despite the objections of the chief priests. The inscription was meant as a mocking title but ironically proclaimed the truth of who Jesus was.
