John 13:27 specifically states that after Jesus gave the bread to Judas, Satan entered into him, and Jesus told him 'What you are going to do, do quickly.' Judas then immediately went out into the night. The detail of Judas hanging himself (Matthew 27:5) occurred much later, after he had already betrayed Jesus and seen his condemnation. At the Last Supper itself, the Gospel of John records Satan's entry into Judas as the immediate consequence.
