GCEPhysicsWaves and Sound2021

a) i) State the principle on which the phenomenon of resonance in sound is based. (2 marks) ii) Describe a simple experiment to demonstrate resonance in sound using a set of identical tuning forks. State what would be observed and explain the observation. (5 marks) b) A pipe closed at one end has a fundamental frequency of 170 Hz when the speed of sound in air is 340 m/s. i) Calculate the length of the pipe. (3 marks) ii) Calculate the frequency of the second overtone produced by the closed pipe. (2 marks) iii) If the pipe were open at both ends and of the same length, calculate the fundamental frequency it would produce. (3 marks) c) State ONE practical application of resonance. (1 mark)
